A Network Management System (NMS) is a combination of hardware and software used to monitor and administer a network. A Network Management System manages network elements, also called managed devices. Element management includes fault, configuration, accounting, performance and security management. Management tasks include identifying the network inventory, monitoring device health and status, providing alerts for conditions that impact system performance and the identification of problems, their causes and possible solutions.
